Restoring a tooth

We are proud to offer modern and effective tooth restoration solutions in a clean, professional and local environment.

  • White fillings are the ‘gold standard’ in cavity treatment and tooth restoration and are one of the treatments we offer that combines tooth restoration and cosmetic dentistry. We use high-quality tooth coloured material to successfully seal cavities to prevent the tooth losing more strength and to stop the spread of infection and further decay.

Metal fillings have always been the first choice in filling cavities because the amalgam material is durable, long-lasting and cost-effective. However, now, a more aesthetically conscious public means that white fillings are just as popular, if not more popular. They offer the same protection as silver fillings, but with the addition of blending the tooth in with the natural teeth, hiding the work that has been done, and maintaining the beauty of the smile.

Which type of cavity treatment do I need?

Early treatment is key because if the cavity is allowed to progress you may find that you end up needing root canal treatment, or you may even develop a painful dental abscess. Further development of the cavity is likely to cause more pain and a need for more detailed treatment that costs more money and time.

If the decay is relatively mild we can remove it and provide you with a white filling. However, if the middle of the tooth is infected in some way we may need to do root canal treatment. This is where we need to remove the infected tissue from the middle of the tooth, clean the area and then replace it with special clinical cement.

It may be that white filling material is used to form part of the reconstruction of the tooth but in some instances a crown is more suitable.

Replace Silver Fillings With White Fillings

  • You may already have fillings that are made from amalgam (silver filling material) and you want them replaced for cosmetic reasons.
  • They may naturally need replacing and perhaps you are considering a white filling as a more aesthetically pleasing alternative.
  • Of course, white fillings blend in much better with the surrounding teeth without drawing attention to the work that has been done. This is a preferable look for many people who want to maintain their beautiful smile.
  • We can replace your silver fillings with a white filling material, although, in most cases, we try to avoid disturbing a successful filling that is in place. We can discuss each option with you when you visit us for your free consultation.

Signs You May Have a Cavity

Regular check-ups with your Essex dentist, along with good daily oral hygiene and support from Perfect Smile Spa dental hygienist services, can help to prevent plaque build-up and the formation of tartar. Common signs and symptoms you might have a cavity are:

  • Sensitivity of the tooth or surrounding gums
  • The tooth may feel rough in parts
  • You may struggle to brush all parts of the tooth
  • The tooth may look grey or black
  • You may get toothache

Our Essex clinic works hard to prevent any dental issues from occurring in the first place, saving you time and money on dental treatment long-term. However, should decay occur, we do have treatments like white fillings to help prevent further issues and to maintain the strength and aesthetics of the remaining tooth.
